Your ISSA certification must be renewed before its expiration date to remain active and valid.
ISSA recertification is straightforward. Complete your continuing education, maintain your CPR/AED certification, and submit your renewal through the Student Portal. This guide explains each step so you can renew your ISSA certification with confidence.
Renewing your ISSA certification protects your career and strengthens your professional credibility
Fitness, nutrition, and coaching best practices evolve. Continuing education ensures you provide accurate, evidence-based guidance to your clients.
If your certification expires, you may lose the ability to use your credential in professional settings. An active certification signals professionalism and commitment to employers and clients.
Stronger knowledge leads to better programming, safer training, and more consistent long-term results.
Continuing education can open the door to new specialties, expanded services, and additional income streams.
Your certification expiration date is listed in your Student Portal. Log in to review your status before you begin. The standard renewal fee is $99 -- complete all 20 CEUs through ISSA and the fee may be waived.
To complete your ISSA certification renewal, you must:

Yes. You may renew up to one year before your expiration date. Your new certification period begins from your original expiration date
You have a one-year grace period after your expiration date to renew. A late fee applies during this period.
If more than one year has passed, re-enrollment in the full certification course is required.
Third-party continuing education units must meet ISSA CEU requirements and are subject to review.
During the renewal process, you will upload your documentation through the Student Portal. If approved, your CEUs will count toward your 20-credit requirement. If additional documentation is needed, ISSA will contact you.
